Time to Get This Show on the Road!

Hello Quilters!

Yes, I know it’s been a long time since I posted.  Thank you all for hanging in there with me.  For those who don’t follow me on Facebook, a lot has happened in the past few months.  My husband passed away suddenly the beginning of November.  Just before that I was notified that my “ScrapitudeQuilts” was in violation of a trademark infringement.  So, after trying to get some order back into my life, I will be changing the name of this website.  My son will switching things over and he tells me that “it will go seamlessly.”  So hopefully, I won’t lose any of you in the process.  I have already changed the Facebook site to “MakingScrappyQuiltsWith Charlotte.”  Check it out if you haven’t already.

OK, so now down to the fun stuff.  YIKES! I’m Surrounded by Scraps!  How’s that for a quilt name?!?  Yes, Surrounded by Scraps is the new mystery that we will be starting in January.  Some of you know you need a “boatload” of 1 1/2″ squares but I figured I should probably give you better numbers than that so here goes:

2017 Mystery Quilt

Surrounded By Scraps  by Charlotte Hawkes

This quilt is being offered in two sizes.  small (approx. 67″ x 85.5″ includes a 5″ border)  and large (approx. 85.5″ x 104″ include a 5″ border).  Instructions will be given with the amounts for the large size (in).  Background fabrics can be all the same fabric or scrappy as long as they are the same color and/or value.  I have used black as my background but any color will do as long as you remember to have good contrast between your background fabric and your colored squares.

48  (80)  –  3 1/2″ assorted colored squares

396  (678)  –  1 1/2″ assorted colored squares

336  (560  –  1 1/2″ background squares

48  (80)  –  3 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ background blocks

96  (160)  –  3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ background blocks

144  (240)  –  3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ background blocks

96  (160)  –  3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ assorted colored blocks (Note:  You may choose to use one contrasting fabric instead of the assorted blocks.  You will need 1/2 yd for the small size and 3/4 yd. for the large size.)  I used a medium blue in mine but now I wish I had used scrappy.  It would have been more awesome!!!

23  (34)  –  1 1/2″ x 17″  background sashing strips

Total amount of background yardage  –  6 yds for small and 8 yds. for large

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!

The first clue will escape on January 11th at 7:00 EST.  Stay tuned!

I am so sorry about your husband. Prayers for you and your family.
I’ve never done a mystery quilt before, but I have swapped 1 1/2″ squares, so I have a few. I may have to jump on board for this one! Sounds like fun!
    Blessings!

I’m so sorry for the loss of your husband. How very brave of you to undertake this quiltalong in the midst of all this adversity. Quilt your way through it is a healthy approach, imo. (It ain’t called therapy for nothin’!) I’m in! Thank you so much.

My condolences on the loss of your husband. Nothing can make that feel better. I hope the Scrapitude people were at least nice about things and gave you some time to work on this – considering everything. I had no idea they had copyrighted that term.

Thanks for your mystery plans. I’ve posted about it on QuiltBOM.wordpress.com

    Just a few questions…..

How many clues will this mystery quilt have? Will it be weekly/monthly….?
