Ok, Quilters! Start your engines!……rev up your sewing machines!
Please note** Black will be shown as the background fabric in all of the instructions. ALSO! Value and diversity are important in this quilt. Try to have different colors, color values, prints, etc. in each of your blocks. Mix it up! Matching is not important here. One more thing…….there will be bias edges. Bias can be your friend or foe. They can help you ease it in or cause you much distress if you stretch them too much. So treat them kindly.
- Cut 4 1/4″ background squares on both diagonals. Sew 1 section to two sides a a 2 5/8″ medium to dark colored squares as shown below. Make 80. Trim dog ears and press toward the background.
- Using the assorted medium to dark colored 4 1/4″ squares that have been cut on both diagonals, sew two assorted sections together on the short side to make a triangle. No need to match at all!! Just sew them! Get out of your matchy box! It won’t matter! Trust me! Make 160. Wait to press until after the next step.
- Sew each triangle from step #2 to the sides of each triangle from step#1. Flip the seams so they nestle nicely. Press and trim dog ears. You should have 80 pieces that measure 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″.
Have fun! The next clue will be on Feb. 9 at 7 pm EST.

This is the first quilt I have made using your pattern. Even with just the cutting instructions and first clue, I can tell I’m going to be pleased with the results. Your directions are amazing. Thank you for this great mystery quilt. I’ve purchased another one of your patterns and am anxious to get started on it as well.
